2. John² Townsend (Thomas¹) was born Melksham, Wiltshire c1766. John died 3rd August 1838 Melksham, Wiltshire, at 72 years of age.

He married Ann Rutty Melksham, Wiltshire, 16th October 1785. Ann was born Melksham? c1768. Ann was the daughter of John Rutty.

John Townsend and Ann Rutty had the following children:

10 ii. James Townsend was born Melksham. James died 25th May 1874 Freshford, Somerset. He married Jane Diffile. Jane was born Melksham, Wiltshire c1805.

11 iii. Richard Townsend.

12 iv. Elizabeth Townsend.

13 v. Ann Townsend.

14 vi. Mary Townsend.

15 vii. Sarah Townsend.

16 viii. Richard Townsend.

+ 17 ix. Henry Townsend was born 1794.

18 x. Thomas Townsend was born Melksham, Wiltshire c1795.
